CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Translated, it means that we can quickly and economically restore damaged teeth using a durable ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth in your mouth. A tooth-colored restoration means no more silver fillings discoloring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaqueresistant. This also means less visits to the dentist, dentists no longer need to create temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the traditional second visit has been eliminated. A smile is one of your greatest personal assets. We can now help you maintain and improve your smile - more conveniently than ever before! The instrument called CEREC allows us to offer natural-looking, high- quality ceramic fillings
or restorations, completed and placed in a single office visit. To further understand the instrument and its use, let us walk you through the process.
First, we prepare the damaged tooth by painting a thin layer of reflective powder directly on the tooth′s surface. Using a special camera, we then take a picture of the tooth. We work from this photo, which is actually a pin-sharp optical impression of the tooth. Computer Aided Design technology helps us design the restoration from the optical impression. You can actually watch us design your new restoration on a full-color computer monitor right before your eyes! Then Computer Aided Manufacturing creates an extremely precise restoration, also while you watch. A high-speed diamond bur and a disk work simultaneously to mill the restoration out of a solid block of ceramic material. Finally, we bond the newly milled restoration to the tooth using state-of-the-art adhesive dentistry. The CEREC advantages are many, first and foremost, the restoration can be performed in a single session, usually in about one hour. With CEREC, there's no need for us to make an impression and send it to a lab. We won′t inconvenience you by asking you to return for a second visit. Second, the restoration is natural looking, as it is made from tooth-colored ceramic material. It's metal-free-no silver fillings to discolor your smile! The ceramic material is compatible with tissue in your mouth, high-grade, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. It allows us to be extremely precise and save more of the healthy part of your tooth. CEREC can be used in procedures such as, Partial and full crowns, veneers and all other single-tooth restorations. The total time we take to make a restoration depends on the health of your teeth. One restoration usually takes about an hour. We can achieve time efficiencies for repair of several teeth. We will decide together how many teeth to restore in a single session. Unfortunately, not every tooth is a candidate for CEREC technology. Teeth that have been damaged by grinding and clenching are not candidates for this procedure, as the ceramic restoration would be destroyed in the same way.
